MSI has confirmed that its GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards will not be available for immediate purchase through its official US store on launch day, January 30. Instead, the company will only allow preorders, with stock shipping to customers starting February 6, reports VideoCardz
According to an official message posted on MSI’s Discord, there will be no day-one stock available on MSI’s website for direct purchase. However, preorders for the RTX 5090 will open at 6 AM PST on January 30, with shipments scheduled for February 6. Meanwhile, the RTX 5080 will be available for purchase at the same time but will ship immediately on launch day.

This delay appears to be specific to MSI’s own store, as a company representative clarified that other retailers may still have RTX 5090 stock. However, the overall supply situation remains uncertain, with reports indicating that stock for Nvidia’s latest flagship GPU could be even more constrained than initially expected.
Stock shortages extend to system integrators
Beyond MSI’s store, system integrators like StinceBuilt have also confirmed delays. The company stated that MSI RTX 5090 models will not arrive until February 6, with stock expected to be minimal at launch. StinceBuilt warned that the day-one availability of the RTX 5090 will be extremely limited, both in retail and for custom-built systems.
Nvidia has acknowledged that the RTX 50 series will face stock shortages at launch. While the company is working to improve availability, it appears unlikely that additional inventory will be shipped in the first few days after release. This situation contrasts with previous Nvidia launches, where images of large stockpiles of GPUs often surfaced ahead of launch day.
MSI’s unique position in the RTX 50 series launch
Unlike brands such as ASUS or Gigabyte, MSI does not produce Radeon or Arc Battlemage GPUs. This makes the RTX 50 series launch particularly critical for the company, as it remains exclusively partnered with Nvidia for graphics cards.
As the launch approaches, all signs point to an extremely challenging retail environment for those looking to secure an RTX 5090 on day one. With stock expected to sell out rapidly, prospective buyers will need to be quick—or prepared to wait several weeks for availability to improve.
