AMD is gearing up to unveil its next-generation Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 graphics cards, powered by the RDNA 4 architecture. According to a new report from Uniko’s Hardware, both GPUs will officially launch on March 6, 2025, with an online media event expected sometime in late February to reveal key details. Reviews should go live in the weeks leading up to the launch, giving gamers an early look at performance.
The RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 share much in common, as both cards fully utilize AMD’s 4 nm “Navi 48” silicon. The main difference between the two appears to be clock speeds, suggesting AMD is using binning to create a slightly lower-tier version of the flagship 9070 XT. This strategy mirrors previous Radeon GPU lineups, where the XT variant offers higher performance while the standard model provides a more affordable option without drastically cutting down features.

AMD’s latest cards are expected to compete with NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5070 series, setting up another crucial mid-to-high-end GPU showdown. With the RDNA 4-based RX 9000 series shifting away from hardware-based ray tracing improvements favouring raw rasterization power and efficiency, these GPUs could be compelling choices for traditional gaming performance.
As the launch date approaches, pricing and benchmarks will be the biggest factors to watch. If AMD aggressively positions the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070, they could offer serious value against NVIDIA’s upcoming offerings. Expect more details to emerge at AMD’s media event in the coming weeks.
RX 9070 XT vs. RX 9070: What’s the difference?
According to Techpowerup, at their core, both the RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 share the same 64 Compute Unit (CU) configuration, featuring 4096 shading units, 256 texture mapping units (TMUs), and 96 render output units (ROPs). They also come with 16GB of GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit bus, offering 624.1 GB/s of bandwidth, and are powered by a 260W TDP, requiring two 8-pin power connectors.
The two GPUs differ in clock speeds and overall computing performance. The RX 9070 XT boasts a 2400 MHz base clock and 2970 MHz boost clock, while the RX 9070 runs slightly lower at a 2210 MHz base and 2700 MHz boost. This results in a 24.33 TFLOPS FP32 compute performance for the XT model, compared to 22.12 TFLOPS on the standard RX 9070—a roughly 10% performance gap.
