Cardano’s Midnight drop is on the way. According to Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson, the token drop will be eligible for 37 million wallets.

In a recent Twitter/X spaces, Charles Hoskinson expanded on privacy chain, Midnight, and how its token will be released.

Midnight will be a data-protection blockchain connected to the Cardano network, bringing new security features to the Cardano ecosystem.

Cardano Midnight ecosystem to drop NIGHT token to 37M wallets

Cardano has had a great 2025. With the network being chosen by Greyscale Investments for an ADA ETF filing, the network has also been picked for the US Crypto Reserve.

Speaking on developments on the Cardano ecosystem, Charles Hoskinson went over the claiming process for the upcoming Midnight token drop, $NIGHT.

In a recent Twitter/X spaces, the Cardano founder mentioned eligible wallets on the XRP Ledger, Avalanche, Solana (SOL), and Ethereum will be able to claim NIGHT tokens on Cardano.

Although there’s no confirmed date, the token launch will take place soon as Midnight, the Cardano ecosystem’s privacy layer 1 network, trudges through testnet.

Hoskinson stated that 37 million wallets from across multiple blockchains will need to come to Cardano to claim their Midnight tokens, more than Cardano’s lifetime active addresses, “increasing our user population by 13x”

What is Cardano’s Midnight?

The Midnight network will be a layer 1 network focused on privacy and data-protection. Although Midnight will be a layer 1 with its own token, the blockchain is still very much a Cardano product.

While Cardano will cover the ecosystem’s public facing transactions and decentralized applications, Midnight will act as the ecosystem’s privacy layer, essentially acting as a sidechain.

Currently, Midnight is in testnet, with developers working on privacy dApps and features to better merge Midnight with the wider Cardano ecosystem. The network will feature rich zero-knowledge (ZK Snark) implementations for “efficient truth validation”.

From Midnight developers:

By building experimental apps and testing code on the Midnight testnet, developers can significantly impact the development of the data protection blockchain.

Testnet serves as a crucial intermediary step on the Midnight roadmap, allowing time for rigorous testing and refinement to ensure the stability, security, and performance of the network.

The chain is one of the most anticipated releases in the crypto market. It’s token drop for $NIGHT will bring multiple network users to Cardano, testing its scaling capabilities similar to the network’s Cardano Doom event.
