There’s Also A DRAMless PS5031-E31T, A Native USB4 SoC, And An Enterprise SSD
Phison is ringing in the new year and CES 2025 with a brand new PCIe 5.0 controller. the PS5028-E28. It will be capable of sequential read and write speeds of up to 14.5GB/s, an insane amount of bandwidth compared to what we had to suffer with just a few years ago. It might not help your Steam games load much faster, but if you ever move the installation location even a huge game will only take a few seconds. It will also help with recording HD video, though perhaps not quite 4K @ 120Hz without making some sacrifices.
The new PS5031-E31T PCIe Gen5 SSD controller will be popular with the price conscious consumer; it is Phison’s new DRAMless controller for PCIe 5.0. The new controller will offer up to 10GB/s read, and on larger drives perhaps writes that approach the same. This controller uses TSMC’s 7nm process, while the higher end PS5028-E28 is on their 6nm line. With support for up to 8TB drives, this controller may become the go to for gamers who are building a new system.
Phison isn’t neglecting their Enterprise customers at CES 2025, the Pascari D205V Enterprise SSD line will be available in sizes up to an impressive 122.88TB. These drives are built for resilience over speed, not that 14,600 MB/s sequential read and 3,000K IOPS random reads is slow by any means. It wouldn’t be CES without mentioning AI, and that is what the Pascari drives will help businesses with. The size and bandwidth are perfect for build new models to feed their machine learning algorithms.
Last, but not least of the news is a brand new Phison U21 SoC which will likely appear on a wide variety of products. It is a 40Gbps USB4 controller, with support for all those older USB versions as well, with support for up to 32TB of TLC or QLC flash and up to four channels/16 chip enables.
