If you need extremely fast portable storage and have a device that can handle providing 15W of power over a Thunderbolt interface then LaCie has a solution for you. The rugged SSD Pro5 give you 2TB or 4TB of storage capable of 6,700MB/s read and 5,300MB/s write; at least until you fill the cache. If you do have enough sustained data transfer to fill that cache, the 2TB SSD Pro5 drops to a ‘mere’ 3,241MB/s read and 1,235 MB/s write which is still faster than many internal SSDs. The 4TB maintains around 1,800MB/s write and the same read as the 2TB model. That much bandwidth means you could use this as a portable gaming drive or record and edit 8K video on the fly.
