President Donald Trump has officially announced that the Presidential Working Group will go ahead with creating a U.S Crypto Reserve.

Mentioned tokens in Trump’s post on Truth Social included Ripple’s XRP, Solana and Cardano’s ADA, sending all three tokens skyward.

Many traders have been wondering why ADA and Solana were first mentioned for inclusion in the reserve and not other cryptocurrencies such as Algorand, Litecoin or Hedera.

US Crypto Reserve announcement excludes key tokens

On March 2, President Trump announced that the formation of a U.S Crypto Reserve had been greenlit, alongside cryptocurrencies that would be included.

According to Trump’s post on Truth Social, XRP, SOL and ADA were mentioned first before Trump followed up with an additional post, saying Bitcoin, Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies would also be included.

For many traders, the XRP, SOL, and ADA came as a surprise first mention, with some believing Trump had completely forgotten about Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Many investors were also expecting different tokens altogether to get mentioned, such as the institutional Hedera Hashgraph (HBAR), and the versatile Algorand (ALGO).

Why was XRP, Solana, Cardano mentioned in Trump’s Crypto Reserve post?

Despite this, Ripple’s mention did not come as a surprise. Already, many analysts are awaiting Ripple’s dismissal and the approval of an XRP ETF to go forward.

Reasons for Cardano, Ripple, and Solana being mentioned first could be because all three contain large investors who helped contribute to Trump’s presidential race, along with connections to Trump’s crypto committee.

Ripple donated $5 million worth of XRP tokens to Trump’s inaugural fund. The company was also behind a super PAC which aimed to get pro-crypto officials voted into seats, whether they were Democrats or Republicans.

Another reason could be arranged meetings with Trump. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse met with Trump on multiple occasions towards the end of 2024 and in 2025.

It’s no secret that Ripple’s Brad Garlinghouse has strong ties to the current Trump administration, especially with Garlinhouse being rumored for a potential crypto advisory role within the White House.

Eric Trump says TradFi needs to “catch up”

Trump has highlighted that other cryptocurrencies will be included in the reserve, so there very well may be a chance that HBAR, ALGO, XLM, and maybe even Binance’s BNB gain a seat in the US’s crypto reserve.

Donald Trump’s latest crypto post on Truth Social:

And, obviously, BTC and ETH, as other valuable Cryptocurrencies, will be the heart of the Reserve. I also love Bitcoin and Ethereum!

Commenting on the announcement, Eric Trump praised the announcement being done on a Sunday, when traditional markets are closed:

For the first time, retail investors win. Traditional finance better catch up, or it will quickly become extinct. The world no longer runs on a Mon-Friday, 9 to 5.

Eric Trump is known in the crypto markets for being a strong advocate of Ethereum, potentially being behind the Trump family’s acquisition of ETH World Liberty Financial.
